The first ever forum for Intermediaries in the Digital Creative Industries in Africa took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the Tshimologong Precinct from 15th – 20th October 2022 as part of the Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival 2022.

This was an inter-regional digital creative industries forum where African intermediaries came together to explore the landscape of intermediaries in the Digital Creative Industries in Africa with a special focus on Animation, Gaming and Immersive Media. This forum themed “Mapping the Compass” saw delegates from South Africa, Kenya, Senegal, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Uganda coming together to dissect the intermediaries ecosystem in understanding the roles of intermediaries in the digital creative industries space, as well as developing a roadmap for the industry.

The above initiative was building on research supported by the GIZ – German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Wits University Digital Arts Department in partnership with Fak’ugezi African Digital Innovation Festival, who have been working on understanding the landscape of Intermediaries in the Digital Creative Industries in Africa.
