CHIEF NYAMWEYA

CHAIRMAN

Chief Nyamweya is the co-founder and creative director of Pungulu Pa Productions and Freehand Studios – two digital arts and animation studios based in Nairobi, Kenya. His animations and graphic novels such as Art of Unlearning (2018), explore African history, philosophy and natural heritage in the context of a rapidly transforming world. His most recent project is the children’s animated series titled Uli and Tata’s African Nursery Rhymes that follows two siblings on their adventure around Africa flying on the back of a giant turaco bird in search of her nursery rhymes. 

As chairman of the Animation Association of Kenya (A3K), Chief has expressed a strong commitment to the “realization of Kenya’s boundless potential as an animation powerhouse through fostering economic, policy, and educational partnerships with players across the African continent and its diaspora.”
